More than money

Sala XIV
Medals are one of the most important types of objects used for memorial and honorary purposes of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and they are also studied by numismatics. This discipline, born in the Renaissance, tries to reveal the secrets of ancient coins, studying books, monetarist, imprints, casts or tokens. Sometimes money abandons its economic function and happens to have an ornamental, votive or advertising purpose. And occasionally, other everyday objects like toys or chocolate coins use it as a model.
